At the end of the school year, I was so excited for it to be over. I was tired of these lines every morning:
Get up, and get up now.
Come eat breakfast, and do it now.
Get dressed, and do it now.
Get your shoes and socks on, and do it now.
Get your teeth brushed, and do it now.
Get your backpack, and do it now.
Get in the car, and do it now.
Do your homework, and do it now.
Do you have show and tell tomorrow, go pick it out, and do it now.
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
And the kids fighting with me every morning, it was an uphill battle, I was battling, and not getting anywhere!! I felt like, you have been doing this same routine every morning for the past 180 days, why do I still have to tell you what to do and when to do it every single morning.
Now, I can't wait for school to start. Because you see, I now have a different kind of battle every single day. It more goes along these lines:
Mom Chelsey hit me
Mom Corbin took my seat
Mom Keegan wants you
Mom why can't you make Kaylix stop crying
Mom why can't we go sell Lemonade in front of the house
Mom why are you so rude
Mom why do you make us do all the chores and you just sit around
Mom Corbin pushed me
Mom Chelsey called me this and that
Mom . . . Mom . . . Mom . . . Mom . . .
Some days, I want to change my name, I don't want to be mom any more!
This morning, I was trying to get the kids to help me, and one fight after the other, I finally gave up on asking them for help. My mom called to chat, and I told her I was packing the kids suite cases and setting them all out on the porch hoping someone nice would come and pick them up!
A day last week, Brenda and I were planning things to do with our kids for the days to come before school starts, then we decided that instead of finding things for them to do, we would plan things for us to do. Things to get away from them! That is when Brenda asked my mom how she did it all those years with all 4 of us home, then my mom made us feel guilty, she said she loved summer and she was always sad when we went back to school. So we gave up our own plans and went back to making plans for the kids!
Tomorrow we are going to the Canyon for a picnic, and then Brenda and the boys are going to come and have a sleep over in our backyard. Plus we are going to go and see if they have posted the kids teachers yet! Then Wednesday, I think we are swimming, Thursday I have achievement days and back to school night, Friday, is Kaylix's 1st birthday, Saturday we are having a party for him, Sunday we will rest and get ready to go back to school on Monday, then I will start the school battle all over again, Get up, get dressed, eat breakfast, get on shoes and socks, brush your teeth, get your backpack, get in the car, just practicing!!!
These pictures are at our Goodbye party for Paige, she left us to go to Snow College! We had a Hawaiian Luau Party, and Chad busted out his Jimmy Buffet hats. He's a big fan!
Have fun at School Paige, we love you!
Hey Tricia!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever heard of Love and Logic? I took a class on it when I was a teacher and have read the Parenting with Love and Logic book. It talks about how you charge your kids money when you have to listen to them fight and remind them to "do it now!" You would be rich once you reposses all of their stuff!! :) It is the best concept and I can't wait to put it in action when my kids get a little older!
Hope you survive your last week of summer!!!
